On July 5, the launch ceremony of Outline of Humanistic Economics and the opening ceremony for the inaugural exhibition of “Comprehensive Ideological and Political Education Through Images: Humanistic Economic Practices in the Yangtze River Delta” were held at the Suzhou Campus of Renmin University of China. Zhang Donggang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Renmin University of China, and Fan Bo, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, attended the event. Research Fellow He Yalan, President of our academy, and Professor Liu Shouying from the School of Economics at Renmin University of China, were invited to deliver remarks on the book Outline of Humanistic Economics.

He Yalan stated that humanistic economics is a major theoretical proposition put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping on the basis of China’s economic development practices, and that it represents a theoretical innovation that organically integrates Xi Jinping’s economic ideology and Xi Jinping’s cultural ideology. The joint research and compilation of the Outline of Humanistic Economics by Renmin University of China and Suzhou Municipality is a concrete practice of implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on promoting the high-quality development of philosophy and the social sciences as well as deepening the systematic and theoretical research and interpretation of the Party’s innovative theory. Rooted in the broader trends of the times and grounded in China’s realities, Outline of Humanistic Economics is an academic work that combines theoretical originality with practical explanatory power. The book expounds the theoretical origins, internal logic, and historical necessity of humanistic economics, and argues from both historical and contemporary perspectives that humanistic economics is a people-centered economics that puts people first; an economics that carries forward the fine traditions of Chinese culture, aims to promote social fairness and justice, and gradually realizes common prosperity for all; and an economics guided by the goal of enhancing people’s well-being, meeting their ever-growing needs for a better life, and pursuing the free and well-rounded development of individuals. Outline of Humanistic Economics provides practical evaluation tools for local governments to advance the development of a humanistic economy, while also offering substantial theoretical guidance for scholars in the fields of philosophy and the social sciences to better understand and grasp the relationship between the humanities and economics in their academic research.
He Yalan stated that the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences looks forward to deepening cooperation and working closely with Renmin University of China and colleagues from all sectors to further advance research on humanistic economics, thereby contributing greater academic support to the construction of an autonomous knowledge system in philosophy and the social sciences with Chinese characteristics, and to the advancement of Chinese modernization.
