The Second Future Cities Forum Held in Beijing

  On Nov 22, 2025, the Second Future Cities Forum was successfully held in Beijing. Focusing on the theme of “Building a Modern People-Oriented City: Urban Renewal-Driven Development, Industrial Transformation, and Smart Governance”, the forum provided a high-level platform for in-depth discussions on key topics such as smart city construction, low-carbon development, urban-rural integration, and resilient city planning. This event brought together nearly 100 experts and scholars from more than 20 universities and research institutions including the National Development and Reform Commission, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Tongji University, Shanghai International Studies University, Liaoning University, Xinjiang University, Hunan University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang University of Technology, Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences, and Beijing Academy of Social Sciences (BASS).

  In the opening remarks, Xie Hui, secretary of the leading Party members’ group at BASS pointed out that China's urban development is currently at a critical stage of transformation and upgrading. Facing the profound impact of the new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, promoting the transformation of urban development towards intrinsic improvement and accelerating the construction of people-centered modern cities has significant and strategic importance.

  This forum was co-organized by BASS’s Urban Institute and the Editorial Office of Urban Problems. Professor Yang Weiguo, Vice President of BASS, chaired the keynote speech session.
